Do not panic!

Postby oHIKARUo on Fri Oct 23, 2009 11:34 am

Okay guys, please do not panic and wonder "WTF is Hikaru going to constantly switch games or what?!"

Do not think this okay. I am announcing now since I am always looking for the next big game... that, "Planetside Next" is in development. It won't be out for a long time (1-2 years) but I am just letting you guys know now that it will be the next game that CAMP plays AFTER MAG.

MAG is the next official CAMP game.

If you haven't played Planetside before it is a MMOFPS made by Sony, the first of its kind. It had pretty insane battles with hundreds of players at once.. (over 256 players..I think it was around 300). The game was awesome. One striking difference that this game has in its favor when compared to MAG is that Planetside had a persistent world... meaning that when you logged in you would be at your base then move to get objectives. There was no loading up of maps or a time limit, the battle was 24/7 and you didn't have to group up you would just have to locate each other (which was easy enough).

That game would be the essence of a team play game.

You guys should look up youtube videos for it. Here is one of Planetside to look at for now, there are no videos of "Planetside Next" at this time.

So MAG isn't the first to host a 256+ players game.

Looks like MAG, or MAG looks like Planetside. Will it only be on PC ? There's probably not much information about that if it's only due in 1-2 years. I'll have to wait till then to see if I can continue with you guys.

All major developing companies are making console games because more people have consoles than they have high end PCs.

Yes a PS3 is nothing compared to a high end console but they outnumber PCs so my guess is that they are making this a console game (and a PC game... expect cross platform.....if not then expect 2 versions, PC/PS3).

The game is also trying to come out without a monthly subscription fee. People are speculating that MAG is a testbed for large player interaction on a console.

If you want to know something even more crazy... Planetside was based on a game called INFANTRY which is also by Sony Online Entertainment.

Infantry is now a free game but this game also supported 250+ players at its prime and is a top down shooter with various modes like CTF etc that is based on instanced matches like MAG is. I play Infantry every now and then because I loved playing it back then. The brief history of Infantry was that it was a free Beta for over 2 years. Then when retail was going to be released the developers said that they will be charging $6.95 a month to play Infantry... The game died as soon as it was released in retail because of the monthly subscription fee. The only reason people wouldn't pay the fee was because the developers allowed people to cheat without banning them or taking any actions. The worst part is that they actually had MODERATORS in the game room watching the games, yet they did nothing. This is why Infantry died. It was dead for about 4 years or so then SOE decided in an odd move, to make the game completely free to play again. Now we are slowly seeing the interest back in the game.

Yep and more specifically Planetside is Sony's game I believe they developed it themselves.

The other games are third party games so I am more than sure that Planetside will receive flagship game treatment when it comes around.

I sure hope so. From what I can read and see, Planetside was pretty interesting.

I do hope, they'll do a PS3 version.

CAMP won't be officially converting to MW2. Several of us are buying it yet, but as a clan the next official game will be MAG.
