MINI FAQ
All information in this mini-faq pertains to the USA/North American region.

Q: How do I get into the beta?

A: Call your local video game retailer such as Game Crazy or Game Stop. Most retailers at this time are offering a black DVD case containing a DVD with a simplified version of the events surrounding the Metal Gear franchise up until now. This can be purchased after placing a pre order deposit, some retailers may sell the DVD without a deposit, this depends on what kind of person is working at the time.

Q: How much is the black DVD case containing both the DVD and beta code?

A: It should be sold for $0.01 but I have heard some stores simply rolling it into the pre order deposit at no additional charge.

Q: I have the DVD case, now where is the Beta code?

A: After opening your DVD case the beta code should be on the back side of the white piece of paper on the very bottom in a box.

Q: When does Beta begin?

A: The first phase of this Beta is the, "download phase." The download phase begins on April 17th 2008 and ends on May 5th 2008. The "gameplay phase" will begin on April 21st 2008 until May 5th 2008

Q: Where do I download the Beta?

A: The white piece of paper that contains the beta code has detailed instructions on the top instructing on how to activate the Beta download.

Q: What is on the DVD?

A: The DVD contains a brief summary of events which makes up the Metal Gear universe. Also included is information describing the origin of the 3 Snakes. Several game trailers are also included, be sure to watch the ENTIRE trailer until it brings you back to the menu as most of the trailers offer extended footage right when you think it is over.

------------
Collected Game information.

These two games will be sold bundled together. Metal Gear Solid 4 marks the end of the Metal Gear saga. This PS3 exclusive stealth action game will show case the power of the PS3. Metal Gear Solid 4 is a single player experience. Metal Gear Online 2 is bundled together with the single player game as a stand alone multiplayer only game.

I wanted to just let everybody know that the clans focus will shift its primary focus to Metal Gear Online 2. This online experience is said to be a refreshing experience to the FPS genre. It is also very close to how COD4 is paced during online games.

Release date at this time is : Q2 2008 so that is anytime between April and June. There is a promotion for pre orders that are placed between April 3rd to 20th that allow the pre order customer to receive a disc with some information/game on it along with a open beta code to enter the beta in its final stage before release. Contact your local retailer for details beginning April 3rd.

Here is some information on the game that I came up with by watching the beta videos the Japanese PS3 community posted up on youtube. The features are categorized as best as possible. This is all in regards to MGO the online portion of the game.

Player movement
-Player can dive/roll forward, left, and right. I have yet to see a backwards dive motion.
-Diving/rolling is used to quickly evade weapon fire or grenades.
-Diving/rolling can also be used offensively, if you dive/roll into an enemy they will be knocked down.
-Players can sprint, cannot fire weapons while sprinting.
-Players can climb up various parts of the map.
-Players can jump through open windows quickly.
-Most falls are non lethal, and appear not to even injure the player.
-Player can crouch, and move simultaneously.
-Player can lay prone, and roll from side to side to evade attacks, as well as lay prone on their back and sneak forwards presumably to throw a grenade.

Player POV
-3rd Person view while sprinting, unable to fire in this mode.
-3rd Person over the shoulder view while shooting, you can switch the side of the shoulder you want to be on the fly.
-1st person shooting and movement modes are allowed. Although I have not seen any evidence of 1st person sprinting, only 1st person movement with weapon up and ready to fire.
-3rd Person camera is able to rotate around the player 360 degrees.

Weapons & Items
-MP5, P90, Shotgun (unidentified pump type), and various pistols.
-Weapon attachments include laser site, acog scope, laser sight, silencer, and something else I was not able to identify.
-Various types of grenades are available.
-Claymore mine available without the red line to give away its position.
-Magazine with women posing available.
-Box available.
-Tranquilizer gun available, very powerful if used properly you can stack the bodies and make a slumber party.

Player Abilities
-Melee combat that results in immediate death of target or you can choose to knock out the target.
-Melee combat seems unavoidable or cannot be countered if you get caught in it in the first place.
-Players can get knocked out and fall asleep if hit by a tranquilizer gun or choked out in melee combat.
-Player cannot respawn or do anything but send a "help" signal to their teammates while sleeping/knocked out.
-Sleeping players can look around 360 degrees in a 3rd person view.
-Players can wake a sleeping player up by patting on their back, unaided by any type of "buff" or modifier" it takes as long as 10 seconds or as quickly as 4 seconds.
-Players eventually wake up after sleeping long enough.
-Quick Macro chat commands are available, things like, "Thanks", "Go go go" , "need help" that are heard from the characters in game voice so you can play without a mic and be heard, but some players were abusing this and becoming annoying by repeatedly hitting the command so it would just be a bunch of noise.
-Playesr can chat via text, like a PC game.
-No evidence of a voice chat option.

Death
-10 second respawn timer on the Domination type game mode available.
-No kill cam, but the camera does show the player that killed you for about 3 seconds after he kills you. So you can see where he is going or where he was at moments after he killed you.
-In the domination type game mode you are able to choose your respawn point
-You are able to change your weapon load out between respawns.
-Weapon load out seems to be based on a point system and you can recustomize your weapon load out as long as you fall within the total points you have accumulated that match (assumption based on what I saw)
-You can shoot each other for a simultaneous death via gun fire.
-It only takes a few shots to die normally, although I have seen some players take MANY shots to die, they may have been lagged or the client was lagged.

Combat
-No wobble while zoomed in with sniper scope.
-One hit with tranq gun will knock out target.
-Grenade blasts can knock you down if they do not kill you.
-Shotgun fire can knock you down if it does not kill you.
-Getting dived or rolled on knocks you down.
-While knocked down you are in a last stand type mode and can rotate 360 degrees and shoot at the opponent. You can choose to get up at any time but can't fire while you get up, it takes about 1-2 seconds to get up.
-Grenade use was not that heavy in this game from what I saw, mostly gun combat. There was one instance where I saw a player throw 4 grenades though, but that was the only time I saw it and I didn't know what type of grenades were thrown.
-I did not see anybody attempt to shoot their opponents through walls, this would indicate that you cannot shoot through walls at the opponent as the wall will absorb the entire force of the bullet.
-Pistols were lethal in the right hands.

Game mode
-I only saw a domination type game mode available on two different maps.
-You can choose where to respawn between deaths.
-The more people that are on a capture location, the faster the location will be captured.

Konami ID
PLEASE READ ALL THE DIRECTIONS THROUGH, after the instructions I will post a trouble shooting section with tips on how to get through it. I will not include that information on the initial walk through.

1. Download and install firefox browser here if you don't already have it. (FREE)
2. Download and install the add-on for firefox "Autofill Forms" here.
3. Go to id.konami.net
4. Click on the Register button on the upper left
5. Enter the information on the first page but DO NOT CLICK NEXT. Right click on any field on the birthdate and select "Add complete form as Autofill Forms profile..."
6. You have to wait until the terms load up, then click ACCEPT.
7. Enter the information on this form (be sure to put in a legit email as you will have to confirm later, do not put your username@konami.com as you do not have that email address.), note that you only need to fill in the information that has a * in it. Otherwise keep in mind that the Konami ID and Game ID must be different. It appears that you cannot use the same password either for both of those fields. Before you click NEXT right click on any field and select "Add complete form as Autofill Forms profile..."
8. Quickly Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click accept on the confirmation/review page.
9. You will receive an email notification. Click on the link that it sends you. Wait for the terms to load up then click accept. If you are told that email confirmation accepted then you are all done.
10. Attempt to login you should receive a "cannot connect to server message" this means you are all ready for Monday all you have to do is wait from here on out.

Konami ID troubleshooting
Q: I received a message "Due to a period of inactivity, the page has been deleted. Please click on the below link to return to the top page." after I fill out the form the first time, but I only took 30 seconds to fill the form.
A: This is why you need the Autofill Form add on. What you do is push ALT CTRL J before you click on register (after you have already saved the Auto Fill profile for the birthdate page and the account info page.) then you simply push ALT J on the birthdate/country form then click on next. This should only take 3 seconds. While the page is loading after you auto fill the birthdate information quickly press ALT CTRL J and select the other profile for id.konami.net (2) then click on accept (for the terms) on the following page. You will then be brought to the account information page. Press ALT J to quickly fill the form then scroll all the way down and click NEXT.

Q: I autofilled the account information form but I receive an error message that my Game ID must be 4-12 numbers/letters and my password is invalid as well.
A: There is no clear explanation as to why this happens, other than the site is really buggy at this time. To compensate you will need to adjust some things on the form you have for that registration application. On firefox click on TOOLS on the top bar, then click on Add-Ons. Click on OPTIONS then click on the tab "MAIN" then select id.konami.net (2) then go to GAME ID then change it there, then change the password then click OK. By the time you do this and go back to the registration form you will have expired your time (due to inactivity bullshit). So you will have to return from the beginning and enter your birthdate again. Before you go on the birthdate page press ALT CTRL J and select the first profile for id.konami.net then click register so all you have to do on the birthdate form is hit ALT J then next, then CTRL ALT J while it is loading to the terms page and select the second profile for the site with your new modified information, ALT J on the account registration page then click next quickly. It took me several tries to get the GAME ID to work so keep working on it, just keep in mind that it makes no sense but keep track of what you put in as the game ID and password as you will need this information later!

Q: I got my confirmation email but when I click the link and then accept the terms I get another message regarding inactivity.
A: Go back to your email and click on the confirmation link, as soon as the terms appear click on NEXT/ACCEPT then it should give you a message that you have confirmed the message. Just keep trying the link until you get through.
